Not taking life too seriously I did my practical term at Slee & Co. in Westcliff Johannesburg during my second year of studies, never finishing top of the class – I could say I enjoyed my studies being a good student with an average attention span of +/-75% throughout the duration of my studies. Thereafter, completing nearly four years of “in-house” training at Boogertman & Partners Pretoria, I set out to establish Sitebraai pty ltd in august 2012 and after receiving my professional architectural registration, began trading as Levitation. I am proud to say that after ten years of being a “one man show” I was finally able to celebrate my 10 year anniversary with the appointment of, fellow TUT student Leon van Heerden, as a friend, colleague and 50/50 stakeholder into this realm of chaos - we call architecture.
About Leon:
Leon actually joined Levitation early in 2021, being the revit master and tech guru of our establishment. He carries a lot of weight within our practice being very diligent, straight to the point and maintains a strict policy when it comes to building regulations. Leon is truly a great asset and is hardly afraid to burn the midnight oil – a perfect associate and sets the criteria for anyone who wishes to join our team.

VAN HEERDEN
I was born in the Great Karoo, where I spent the first eighteen years of my life. After my studies, I joined the architectural profession in 2010 and to this day I have found every single project to be an exciting learning curve – always bringing something new to the table.
Since my early childhood, I have always been fascinated with how things work and constantly found myself taking anything I could find apart. As I got older, I learnt to put these things back together again and later on, creating new functions for things with the spare parts.
I find architecture to be a very rewarding profession which allows me to interact with a vast variety of disciplines and believe that everything in this world has been designed to suite its purpose. Architecture is both captivating and compelling and I enjoy finding new solutions for every discovery I apply my mind to.
About Henk:
I met Henk in the Halls of TUT where we were enjoying our newly found ambitions to become architects. Henk, however, had been there a few years before me. On that day I found myself helping him mount his projects to the walls of the fire escape because he felt the examination hall wasn't good enough.
As for our next encounter, it was to be the second fire escape where our paths met. On this day, Henk was hauling bags of soil up four flights of stairs to his “new roof garden” and I lenthim a hand to create a little patch of greenery for everyone to enjoy the views from the departmental roof.
It has been these “Moments of the Past” that have set very strong precedents for us and the tasks of the day as well as future days to come.
I know that nothing we accomplish will ever be considered ordinary' when every idea has been approached as extraordinary.
